A mobile application that helps people in romantic relationships stay mindful and connected.

What it is

Juno has three main functions in the mobile application. One is an automated check-in that prompts users with meaningful questions to discuss with their partner. The second is a date proposal where users can reignite the flame by proposing dates to their partner. Third are meditations that users can listen to alone or with their partner to strengthen and deepen their personal connections.

The Problem

Whether you have been in a relationship for years or if you just started dating some parts of the romance we crave can be forgotten or ignored. People can go through the motions without asking their partner on a date or checking in about the future, past, or present state of the relationship.

The Solution

Juno helps users connect to their romantic partner in ways they may struggle doing on their own. Living mindfully is not a solo journey when you are in a relationship. Relate bridges the gap between couples using a thoughtful and caring bridge.

To create this application we wanted to get some input from people who are in a romantic relationship. The goal was to find out where couples could use the application to help with communication and enhance a mindful relationship.

Only for sex and must pay a subscription.

There is not an application that is facilitating questions for partners in a mindful communication prompting. There are also no action steps for dating or having these harder conversations.

Adjustments made...

After my wireframes were complete I tested their usability on several couples. From the testing, I learned the complication of having a check-in question customization all on one page. I also got feedback on the meditation player.

  • Mini meditation player screen not necessary. If someone is listening to a meditation they are not moving around the application.

  • Check-in question customization is spread onto separate screens to ease coding and accessibility.

User Testing

After testing the first hi-fi mock-up I received feedback that the media player could have more flare and be a better representation of the app. Also on the "Your Dates" page as a new user it could have users drop off if there are no suggestions on that same page.

Visual Design and Branding

The name Juno was chosen because we wanted the application to have a one-word name. We went through several options including Relate, Couples, and Apollo. Juno is considered the Roman Goddess of love. We found this to be a solid representation of the application.

Conclusion

When we set out to make this mobile app. we knew we wanted it to be for people in romantic relationships. We took the time to survey and interview to find out what people wanted or would like in a mobile app to help their relationships. We thought, in the beginning, a list organizer would be helpful. After further research, we found that people either prefer to text for live alerts or do not want to organize in this way. What people were looking for was a way to improve communication.

After hearing from therapists and couples about their present and past relationships we found that people have a hard time breaching tough topics. This is where mindful communication and the Check-In feature are helpful. Using this feature couples can choose topics and be prompted with questions for discussions much like in couples therapy. Using mindful communication couples can enhance their listening skills and be more present with their partner. 

A great way to become grounded prior to challenging or big conversations is to meditate. We worked with certified MBSR instructors to gain insight into the guided meditations on the application. 

Relationships should be fun. We wanted to bring back some of the novelty with the Date feature of the app. If you've been in a relationship for a long time you may not still be asking your partner out on dates. This feature prompts fun activities including COVID-Friendly which could be at your own home or out in the open air. 

The application is set to launch in July 2021 and more testing and research will be done upon its debut in the App Store.
